About the photo
Who are we?
Different shades of melanin,
We were born black,
We were created this way,
We did not choose our color,
It was given to us,
Different shades of melanin.
Because we are darker they treat us differently.
They treat us like lesser versions of human.
Yet we bleed like them,
We cry like them,
We play like them,
We dream like them.
We have to fight for our own freedom,
And cry so our voices will be heard.
Yet nothing has changed.
They say we are no longer in chains,
But we are chained by their perceptions.
They say we are free to live our lives,
But we struggle to stay alive because of their perception.
Our life span is determined by them.
We were born this way,
Our only guilt is having a higher melanin.
