ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nicolas Pesquier moved to Marseille in 2018 after a one-year artistic residency at 40mcube. Today, he occupies a studio at L’Immeuble, an artist-run space located in the 3rd arrondissement. He also teaches painting and drawing at the Beaux-Arts of Aix-en-Provence. Nicolas Pesquier's paintings break free from the classic codes of the painting. The free canvas then becomes the place of a reconquest, the space for a renegotiation of borders, the place of engagement and unlearning, erasing, covering, or revealing the existing framework. He re-uses used textiles or diverts the function of certain objects and reactivates them through the pictorial gesture.
