ABOUT THE ARTIST
Courtney Minor is a self-taught mixed media collage artist who lives in the United States. She has a fascination with eyes – she stares at them, sketches them, paints and photographs them – and believes that eyes tell a story. No matter the person's composure, the eyes reveal the truth. Courtney's works embody that vulnerability, as well as the inner world of a person that most keep hidden. She begins with photographing her subjects, building up layers of varying materials, including paper, glass, yarn, and paint. Her work has been shown at The Other Artfair.
This painting honors black female and male figures in USA history as well as common phrases and events in Black American culture.
